Electrification of the Spanish section of the Vigo-Porto line awarded by 1.78ME
Porto, 13 Jun 2019 (Lusa) - The Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) has today awarded, for 1.78 million euros, the electrification project for the Guillarei-Tui section in Galicia in the context of the modernization of the Vigo-Porto connection , today announced that entity.
In a statement published on its official website, Adif reveals that the contract was awarded to Telice for 1.78 million euros (VAT included), with an execution period of 6 months.
The work foresees the installation of the complete system of overhead contact lines, composed of a transformable hybrid catenary, carried out from the Guillarei triangle to the limit before the international bridge on the river Minho, which borders Portugal, as well as electrification of the railway line I have tracks 1, 2 and 4.
In addition, explains Adif in the published note, the contract foresees, in the scope of signaling and communications, the adaptation and maintenance of the security installations affected by the electrification of the Guillarei-Tui section.
This contract, with a budget of 18.1 million euros (including VAT), also includes work on signaling facilities in the Guillarei-Tui section and its adjacent sections, namely the "replacement of the current telephone block between the stations of Tui and Valença do Minho (Portugal) which will also be replaced by a centralized BAU (Automatic Blocking in Single Track) block with axis counters ".
According to Adif, the electrification of this section, which is about five kilometers long, is part of the bilateral agreements between Spain and Portugal for the improvement of cross-border rail services.
Speaking to Lusa, Xoan Mao, secretary general of the Atlantic Axis of the Northwest Peninsular, an organization that brings together 38 Portuguese and Galician municipalities, welcomes the award of this section, but stresses, however, that this is just another stage.
Infrastructures of Portugal announced on February 29, 2016 the approval of the modernization and electrification of the entire Minho Line, which will be implemented in two phases: an initial one, on the Nine - Viana do Castelo section (43.6 kilometers), and another between Viana do Castelo and Valença, both in execution.
The electrification of the Nine - Viana do Castelo section was awarded on January 30, 2017, for 16 million euros, and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018.
The modernization project of the Minho Line also includes electrification Nine - Valença do Minho, the elimination of level crossings, new substations, interventions in tunnels and bridges, and installation of signaling systems and telecommunications, with a total investment of 832 million euros .
