Celta Vigo extends Barcelona

Celta Vigo extends Barcelona

Barcelona lost 2-0 on the Celta Vigo field, with the Galicians winning three very important points for the race for salvation. The goals came in the second half with Maxi Gomez (67 ') and a penalty by Iago Aspas in the 88th minute. Ko also Atletico Madrid, defeated in Barcelona by Espanyol who now hopes for a qualification in the Europa League: after Diego Godin's own goal in the 45th minute comes the brace of Borja Iglesias (52 'and penalty in the 90th minute).

A remodeled Barcelona falls on the field of Celta Vigo, which now sees the achievement of salvation closer and closer. Dembelé is forced to leave the field due to an injury to his right thigh after just 4 minutes of play; Collado enters his place. At 10 'Maxi Gomez tries a right on the first post that ends just wide. Barcelona are in full control of the match. However, Celta Vigo tries to create some headaches for the champions of Spain, with Cillessen being forced to fiddle with the corner kicked by Boudebouz. The first real opportunity for the blaugrana arrives in the 41st minute: Wague concludes with a low diagonal, rejected by Blanco. At the end, the substitute Collado also tries, but his left-handed from 25 meters ends slightly to the side. The recovery is definitely more exciting. Celta took the lead in the 50th minute with Araujo's tap-in after Cillessen's save on Cabral's header, but it was then canceled by Var for an offside position by Araujo himself. The hosts still touch the goal of 1-0 at 60 ': the conclusion from the edge by Iago Aspas ends up not much above the crossbar. Cillessen manages to block Boudebouz's dangerous close-range header, but he can't do anything about the split volley on Maxi Gomez's near post, who takes full advantage of Boudebouz's cross from the right. Barcelona had momentarily remained in ten men for Todibo's injury, later replaced by Murillo. Valverde's line-up goes to the final assault in search of at least a draw, but at 88 'she is forced to capitulate definitively on the penalty converted by Iago Aspas; the penalty was awarded with the help of the Var for a touch of Umtiti's hand. A very important step forward for the Galicians in terms of salvation.

A bad version of Atletico Madrid gets outclassed in Barcelona. But not by the blaugrana rulers of the Spanish Liga, but by an excellent Espanyol, who in this way keeps his dreams of qualifying for the cups alive (Athletic Bilbao is three points away). The great protagonist of the match is Borja Iglesias, who thanks to his brace also reaches a certain Antoine Griezmann at an altitude of 15 goals in the scorers' classification.

The Colchoneros do not even start badly: already after 3 minutes Morata has a good chance, with the ex Milan player Diego Lopez who, however, manages to oppose. At 12 ', however, on the initiative of Morata himself, the Espanyol goalkeeper messes with the ball, in fact delivers it to Koke, but then manages to take refuge in the corner. On the corner the ball arrives at the second post, Savic arrives with the header, but crushes it out. The Catalans, after letting their opponents vent in the first minutes, however, manage to raise their heads soon: it is already clear at the 25 ', when Roja serves a great ball in the area in Iglesias, who elegantly blocks and opens on the right for Wu Her. The talented Chinese, however, is closed big by Godin. After an attempt from the distance by Darder for Espanyol and two occasions for Atletico (Lopez replies present both on Savic's header and on Lemar's fireball), a few seconds from the interval the Espanyol unlocks it: Pedrosa gallops on the left, he quickly overtakes Rodrigo and puts her in the center, Godin gets there first but his sliding action turns into a sensational own goal.

And the state of grace of the Blanquiazules continues also in the second half: at 52 'Melendo finds a sensational ball deep for Borque Iglesias, the center forward snaps on the offside, escapes the Filipe Luis marking and beats Oblak with a great diagonal conclusion. Here in fact the Colchoneros melt: in three quarters of an hour they become dangerous only with an attempt by Saul to measure the corner and then with a nice right-footed shot from Correa who ends up on the net, but with the game already offside . On the other hand, Granero and Pedrosa are immaterial (the latter also forces Oblak to make a great parade in the 66th minute). And at 89 'Espanyol becomes the protagonist of another restart: Melendo throws Puado, who enters the area and is knocked down by a Juanfran shoulder. The rigor that Borja Iglesias transforms is inevitable. And the bad day of the athletes is complete.

Two other games were played in the afternoon, with important points at stake for the Europe zone and the salvation zone. The victory achieved by Real Sociedad on the Alaves field is very important: a 1-0 which is worth the link in eighth place in the standings, on equal points with Espanyol is only three distances from Athletic Bilbao seventh. Willian Jose's initiative was decisive in the 24th minute, with a right from the edge decisively deflected by Manu Garcia. Fundamental also the 4-1 with which the Levante regulated the derelict Rayo Vallecano, who despite the fresh victory over Real Madrid remains desolately penultimate in the standings. The Granotes instead go to +3 on the third last Valladolid at the end of a game decided already in the first half: Campana took the lead in the 14 ', then, after a penalty missed by Morales in the 30', it was Vezo to double at 43 '. Alvaro Garcia halved the disadvantage for Madrid in the 71st minute, but Levante ended the game thanks to Jason and Bardhi's one-two in the 85th and 90th minute.
